Privacy Policy for Koin

Last Updated: March 18, 2026

Thank you for choosing to use Koin (“we”, “us”, or “our”). We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines our practices regarding the information collected when you use our mobile application (the “App”).

Our core philosophy is simple: we do not want your personal data. Koin is designed to function with maximum privacy and a minimal data footprint.

1. Information We Do NOT Collect

We believe that the best way to protect your data is to never collect it in the first place. When using Koin:

  • No Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal identifiers.
  • No Accounts: You do not need to create an account to use the App.
  • No Tracking or Analytics: We do not use third-party analytics SDKs (such as Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) or tracking frameworks to monitor your behavior within the App.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

To provide a seamless experience, Koin stores certain functional preferences locally on your device using a secure, local storage solution (MMKV). This data includes:

  • Your selected home currency and travel currency.
  • UI preferences, such as decimal separator choices.
  • Cached exchange rates to allow the App to function offline.

This information never leaves your device and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear this data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing the App’s data in your device settings.

3. Network Requests and Server Logs

To provide up-to-date currency conversion rates, the App makes anonymous network requests to our custom backend server at koin.awinter.dev.

  • Exchange Rates: These requests are strictly used to fetch the latest exchange rates. Our backend sources these rates from ExchangeRate-API. The requests from your device to our server contain no personal data or unique device identifiers.
  • Server Logs: Like almost all web services, our server automatically logs standard connection information when a request is made. This includes your IP address, browser/device user agent, and timestamps. These logs are maintained purely for security purposes, operational diagnostics, and DDoS prevention. They are not tied to any individual user, are not used for tracking, and are routinely purged.

4. Children’s Privacy

These Services do not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to take the necessary actions.

5. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. Thus, you are advised to review this page periodically for any changes. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted.
